Job Descriptions for local officer positions
1. The
president presides at all meeting of the general membership and of the local Executive Board. He or she reports
periodically to the membership regarding local and statewide union business. The president keeps in touch with the
activities of any sitting committees. He or she may co-sign checks. He or she coordinates the work of the local field
representative and signs the field representative's time sheet.
2. The
vice-president assists the president in the work of his/her office and shall perform the duties of the president in the president's
absence. He or she may also co-sign checks.
3. The
recording secretary shall be responsible for recording, publishing and distributing the minutes of all meetings of the general membership and of the local Executive Board.
4. The
treasurer shall receive and receipt all monies of the local union which are to be handled at the local level. He or she shall deposit all money so received in the name of the local union in a bank or banks selected by the local Executive Board. Money so deposited shall be withdrawn only by countersigned check. Officers with signatory power shall be the President, Vice President, and the Treasurer. The Treasurer shall prepare checks, or otherwise transfer funds, for such purposes as are required by the
constitution or are authorized by the local Executive Board. He or she shall keep an accurate record of receipts and disbursements and shall, once each month or as directed by the local Executive Board, submit to the membership any operating statement of the financial transactions of the local since the preceding report. He or she shall act as the custodian of all properties of the local union. He or she shall, at the expense of the local union, give a surety bond for an amount to be fixed by the local Executive Board of the local union.
5. The
executive committee members attend and vote at the statewide phone and in-person meetings as
representatives of our local and also at the local Executive Board meetings. They report to the membership on issues that the
statewide Committee is facing and bring back the local opinions and issues to the statewide Committee. The statewide
Committee meets by telephone conference calls once a month or so and once a month in person at various campuses. The
travel expenses of the statewide Committee Representatives are paid for by the statewide office. The frequency of in-person meetings and phone meetings depends on the issues at hand.
6. The local representative to the
Bargaining Team goes to bargaining sessions set by the Bargaining Team and the Office
of the President. Release time is provided so that you continue to be paid while serving this important function of the
union and the university. Travel is paid for by the statewide office.
7. The
alternate local representative to the Bargaining Team performs the duties of the local bargaining representative in the representative's absence.
The
statewide constitution calls for the election of a statewide Election Appeal panelist from every local. The
Election Appeal panelist shall serve on the statewide Election Appeal panel and shall assist in any investigations arising from a challenge of the statewide elections.
The panel shall convene only when necessary to answer a challenge and shall conduct its investigation(s) and issue its ruling(s) in accordance with the statewide consititution.

Committee Representative. The face-to-face executive board meetings are inspirational events! Meet
your counterparts from other campuses and help make the decisions that make our union RUN.
If you believe in CUE's vision of economic and employment justice for UC clericals, if you have
strong feelings about your working conditions, consider serving a term on the Bargaining Team.
Bargainers use University-approved release time (approved time away from your university job) to
travel to the various bargaining sites and the union pays for your travel. You get a chance to
improve your life and the lives of your fellow clericals.
The current and outgoing
officers stand ready to assist anyone who takes office as President or Vice-President to handle those duties in the beginning of their term. Our field representative can help
in many ways, too.
