San Bernardino County's largest public employee union has pledged its support to a planned strike by clerical workers in the University of California system.

The board of directors of the San Bernardino Public Employees Association voted unanimously to support the strike by the Coalition of University Employees, which is planning a two-day strike at the Riverside campus on October 14 and 15.

"We're proud to offer our full support for CUE", said Chris Prato, general manager of the 15,000+ member association. "CUE members have done a fantastic job putting up with the strong-arm tactics of UC management, and our vote was designed to let the Regents know the UC clericals have a lot of community support", he added.

"It's about time that public managers recognized the true worth of office professionals, and UC especially needs to bargain in good faith with the workers who keep the university system running", said Prato.

Representative of the county employee's union will join striking university workers on the picket line.
