CUE meets with Riverside Chancellor
On Tuesday, 23 May 2000, CUE Riverside attended the Chancellors
"Rappin with the Chancellor" at our Bell Tower. One of CUE's new officers
made a beautiful sign and we asked the Chancellor if he would go to
Atkinson and tell him he supports increased wages to make up for the lag in
our salaries. He accepted the over 100 letters that we presented to him
and said that he would, and had, told Atkinson that clerical salaries need
to be brought up to market. He said that the Governor had been asked for a
1% additional increase (over the 2% and 1.9% [I assume he meant the merit
dollars]) and he was pushing for a 2% over and above. Then he got into the
rhetoric of how it took 4 years to incrementally bring faculty salaries
into line and it would take the same type of commitment for clerical
salaries. He then asked that we support equitable across-the-board salaries for
clerical employees from campus to campus, which he said he was fighting
for. Interesting.
After he finished speaking, Scott Miller asked him if he would let us take
a picture of him with our sign and officers and he did so with a smile,
holding out the letters in his hand.
