UC librarians are committed to academic excellence at the University of California and support the teaching and research missions of the University.
The UCR librarians of UC-AFT Local 1966 believe that in order to carry out the teaching and research missions of the University, the University's infrastructure must be supported, maintained, and developed to create an optimal environment that achieves the mutually interdependent goals of academic excellence and quality education.
IN ADDITION to the support, maintenance, and development provided to the faculty, the administrative structure, and the academic programs of this institution, such support should also be included for ALL our instructors, our clerical staff, our researchers, and our technical employees.
At UCR we see daily that individuals make a difference in the lives of our students, our faculty, our staff, and the community. Just and equitable working conditions are reasonable requests of University employees. The lack of settled contracts among so many of the University's employee groups for such a long period of time sends a powerfully negative message to the University's employees, the students and alumni of the University, and the citizens of the State of California. It runs counter to the notion that a preeminent academic institution must have everyone fairly and positively involved to insure a successful enterprise.
Given these basic principles, the UCR librarians of UC-AFT Local 1966 wish to declare our support of the employee strike at UCR and our support of fair and responsible contract negotiations between the UC and CUE, UC-AFT, and UPTE.
