CUE Union Local #2
July 13, 2004
The Barn, University Club Room

In attendance were:
Mary Juma, President and UCR Rep, Statewide Executive Board
Ginger Schilling, Secretary
Terri Romano, UCR Rep, Statewide Executive Board
Connie McGrath, UCR Rep, Statewide Executive Board
Chris Benoit, Staff Person
and CUE members for a total of about 27 people.

Not present:
Sandy Oberlies, Vice-President

The meeting started approximately 12:10pm.

Mary began the meeting by giving out the phone number for her direct line: 827-4803 and encouraged people to vote both at the local and SW level.

Bargaining - Maria & Stacy
First bargaing session will be July 21-22. They just finished a training session on the technique of interest-based bargaining. They believe some good bargaining sessions are ahead.

Support for Bargaining - Chris
Riverside wants to send a group to the Los Angeles bargaining session to show our support for our bargaining team. Chris to drive. Group to meet at UCR at about 8:00am. Bargaining should start about 9:00am and end about 3:00pm. It won't be very interesting. They are probably just going to lay the ground rules. Stacy added that it really does make a difference to UC for CUE members to show up either to observe or even just for a rally.

Re-Opener Bargaining - Connie
UC refused to go through with mediation. Incentive awards should be distributed to clericals. If you should be getting one, ask for it. If they don't have the money, we can file an ULP because you are supposed to get it. For the Arbitration Panal, the E-Board decided to have Hank Levi[sp?] as our spokesperson. UC has chosen Peter Chester. The third person is still under discussion. It will be Sept./Oct.  before anything is done.

SW elections - Connie
SW nominations are open now. Will close on Sunday. The elections will take place sometime from the middle of August to Septmember. All the information is on the website. Connie also stressed member involvement in the election process.

Local Treasurer Election - Maggie/Amelia
Nomination open today and close July 27th at 5:00pm. You can nominate yourself.

New Committees - Mary
Mary stressed member involvement and encouraged members to sign up for local committees to help get us more organized and to recruit new members.

The next In-Person meeting is as LBNL. Mary encouraged members to contact their local officers with theirs thoughts, views, etc. so that the E-Board Reps. can share them with SW.

The meeting was opened for questions. General discussion about California's budget.
