Dear Chancellor Greenwood

I am writing to request your support for the clericals of the UC Santa Cruz campus. As a resident of Santa Cruz yourself, I'm sure you realize the high cost of living in this city. And as the highest administrator of this campus, I know you understand how clericals support every facet of campus life. UC's recent wage proposal would eliminate merit increases for the 2001-2002 year. Considering that most clericals who are eligible for merit increases receive only a 5% increase, and that many clericals are not even eligible because they've reached the top of their range, this amount is paltry compared to the huge salary increases that many top administrators receive. I urge you to press UC for a substantial wage increase for clericals across the board, as well as continued merit increases for those who so deserve them.
