2006 Candidate Election Information

August 22, 2006

Dear Candidates,

We apologize for the delays in this election process. We thank you for your patience and ask that you bear with us the rest of the way, as we try to get this election back on track.

As you all know, CUE is a member, volunteer run union. This has many advantages and emphasizes participatory democracy. However, it also means that all members of any committee are balancing life, work and CUE participation each day. We hope that for the rest of the election, we can juggle more successfully.

We have had a challenge to the eligibility of a candidate. The Election Committee has reviewed the challenge and issued our report to the Statewide Executive Board. The Board is in the process of seeking legal advice which they hope to complete by the end of this week. We hope to develop the final timeline and have no more delays in the election process.

As a candidate for office, you may prepare a candidate statement that will be sent out with the ballot. We would like for each of you to complete your candidate statement and send it to the Election Committee no later than August 31, 2006. The requirements for the statement of each candidate are as follows:

1) You will be given an 8 x 11.5 page (one side only) to use as you choose. You may fill it with a statement, have endorsements, use all of the page or only part of the page. The page will have 1" margins all around. We will NOT do color graphics.

2) Your statement will NOT be edited. You should check your own grammar and spelling. Any mistake you make will go out just as it was sent in. We may reformat your materials to meet the margin requirements, but for no other reason. If you have questions, please contact Linda Moser by e-mail or cell phone: llmoser@ucdavis.edu, 916-606-4161. If you phone, leave a message and she will call you on break or at lunch.

3) Your statement may be put on the state website to facilitate receipt and return of rebuttal statements. (All candidates will have a chance to write rebuttals to the statements of your opponents). We will issue the final instructions and dates as soon as possible.

4) Your statements should be in electronic format (an attachment to an e-mail is preferable). Your statement should be sent to: cue-elections@sbcglobal.net with the following information in the subject line: Office for which you are a candidate, CANDIDATE STATEMENT, your name, e.g. PRESIDENT CANDIDATE STATEMENT - John Doe.

5) YOUR STATEMENTS MUST BE IN TO THE ELECTION COMMITTEE BY 5 P.M. ON AUGUST 31. LATE STATEMENTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
