To the Membership:
There has been an unfortunate mix-up in our earlier posting. We are
righting that situation with this revised list of candidates (see below in the July 18, 2002 posting). Our
apologies for any confusion and anxious moments we might have caused all
the participants. The Election Committee is grateful to everyone who is
willing to participate in making CUE the great union it is becoming.
You should be receiving your ballot in the mail during the first week of
August. Thank you all for your understanding.

Thanks,

Procedures for the CUE Statewide Officer Elections
- Candidates statements: Candidate statements shall be organized in the
following manner:
- Each candidate will have 400 words for their statement of purpose,
vision, pitch, etc.
- Immediately below this statement, each candidate will be able to list (i.e.,
not complete sentences or paragraphs) their experience/credentials with
CUE - committees, responsibilities, office held, etc. - including up to ten
items maximum. Candidates may include up to three items in relation to
experience earned in other organizations at the end of their list if the
total list contains no more than 10 items.
- Endorsements: each candidate in a separate section below their
statement and experience synopsis can list up to 12 endorsements.
Endorsements in this section are defined as being individual members of
CUE, with offices or CUE responsibilities listed for identification
purposes only. If an endorsement comes from another candidate for a
statewide office, the particular office for which they are competing can be
identified as well. In any case, no more than three such labels may be
used as identifiers for any one endorsement.
- Any experience or endorsement that does not fit within the parameters of
3b or 3c may be included as part of the candidate's statement as
described in 3a. The only exception would be endorsements from
individuals/organizations which supervise members of the bargaining
unit CUE represents.
- As provided in the Constitution, Candidates may have a statement and
rebuttal mailed at CUE's expense. If the Candidate misses the deadline,
which is the close of business June 24th, their statements will not be
mailed out at CUE's expense. Statements should be either faxed to
Election Committee at 310-473-7240 or mailed to Election Committee,
c/o CUE 1261 Westwood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90024.
- Candidate Mailings: As provided for in the constitution, each candidate
can prepare and send one mailing at their own expense.
- The CUE website will host a section for the statewide election that will
include: an approved timeline, text of mailings and candidate statements
and rebuttal, and the e-mail address or substitute contact information
for each candidate, if they so choose. Photos will be included to identify
candidates barring technical inadequacies. The Elections Committee
takes responsibility for posting only information that is confirmed by the
candidates themselves.
- Each Candidate will receive one free hardcopy of CUE's Statewide
membership information.
- Spending limits per candidate will equal $250.00. Each candidate will
receive the appropriate funds reporting forms with the $250.00 check.
Relevant sections of the Constitution governing this election are included
in Section V (Statewide Structure);
VI (Elections) and
