Updated Ballot Information

March 29, 2002

Dear CUE member,

Recently, you received election material for elections to fill several statewide offices, including the statewide chief steward. The ballot listed three candidates: Chris Benoit, J. Federico Martin, and Margy Wilkinson. In fact, Chris had declined the nomination and her name was included on the ballot due to a production error. J. Federico Martin and Margy Wilkinson are the two candidates for the statewide chief steward position.

To allow members a chance to change their vote for chief steward if they voted for Chris, CUE is extending the ballot deadlines. Members may request a supplemental ballot and candidate statements for the chief steward position only.

If you did not receive the original ballot, you may request a duplicate ballot.

To request either the supplemental or original ballots, please contact CUE at (510) 845-5327 or by email at clericals@cueunion.org. The deadline for requesting the ballots is April 19. All ballots must be postmarked by April 30 to be counted.

Sincerely,

Julia Baumann

The Small Print: Please Read

*All officers shall be a member of the bargaining unit and a member of CUE. To run for statewide office, the member must be in good standing in a local and be employed in the unit.

**We need to elect one trustee for one year and one for the remainder of the three-year term to replace the person who left the bargaining unit (this term will be slightly less than two years). Both trustee positions will serve until Fall 2003. The term lengths will apply only to this first statewide election of trustees; from now on, every trustee will serve a two-year term, however those terms will be staggered.

Please use the nominations form to nominate the people you would like to run for office. Use one form per nomination and duplicate the form if you would like to nominate more than one person. Thank you.

Sincerely,

THE ELECTION COMMITTEE
Julia L. Baumann, Chair
LaTrice King
Laurie Allen

NOTE: CUE will hold an election to fill vacant positions in our statewide structure. The important responsibility for conducting CUE's elections falls to member volunteers, who will need to make sure the election is run according to CUE's constitution and applicable laws.

Committee members have the general responsibility for the conduct of the election, to rule on challenges that concern the eligibility of nominees for office, to report the results of the election, and to make recommendations if members file a protest that concerns the conduct of the election. No member of the committee may be a candidate for office.
