Venue and Meeting Information

The meeting will be held in Humanities Bldg 1 Conf Room 210 on Santa Cruz campus. Humanities complex at Cowell College Road and McLaughlin. 210 is in the main building (Hum 1) and faces the small quad and road to Cowell.

Take a left turn out of the Mission Inn parking lot on to Mission Street. Continue on Mission until you get to Bay. Left on Bay then continue approximately 2 miles. The street abuts the base of campus. Follow directions below to get to the Humanities Bldg.

Directions to Humanities Bldg 1 Conf Room 210: Once at the base of campus, go through the intersection and on to campus. Once you are through the entrance, go to the second stop light, and go left on Hagar.

Continue up Hagar to the top where it intersects McLaughlin. Go right at the stop sign on to McLaughlin. Take the next immediate right turn (Cowell College entrance).

The Humanities complex is to your right as you turn into the Cowell College road. The parking lots/spaces are marked. DO NOT PARK IN ANY SPECIALLY MARKED SPACES SUCH AS: MEDICAL, "O" PERMIT, 10 MIN SPACES, ETC. -- YOU WILL BE TICKETED. THE REST OF THE PARKING SPACES CAN BE USED ON THE WEEKEND WITHOUT A CAMPUS PERMIT.

Park and come back to the Humanities complex. As you face the buildings in the small patio area, you will see Humanities Building Number 1 directly in front of you. Conference Room 210 is at the front of the building -- the glass windows and doors to the room look out into the patio area.

There will be breakfast at 8:30am Sat and Sunday morning. Lunch will be served at noon and there will be coffee/tea service and cold beverages throughout the day. There is the Baytree Bookstore and express store (mini market) where you can purchase just about anything you want if you have some special needs. The bookstore hours on the weekend are 10-4 and it is a short walk from the Humanities Building. Please look for the welcome letter when you check into your hotel. We look forward to seeing you all there.

MOTION: Move the following accounts from the California Bank & Trust to United Labor Bank:

Santa Cruz Local Reserve Savings
Santa Barbara Local Reserve Savings
Riverside Local Reserve Savings
LBNL Local Reserve Savings
SW Repayment Account

BACKGROUND AND MOTIVATION:

I was contacted by the United Labor Bank in Oakland, a local (Oakland) labor-friendly banking institution. They were soliciting business. I made some inquiries into interest rates for different types of accounts. They were willing to negotiate based on the amount of money deposited. My motivation is to try to diversify and protect our money as much as possible. The FDIC only protects up to $100,000 per banking institution. We have much more than that in our combined accounts in California Bank and Trust.

United Labor Bank offered the following interest rates for these accounts:
LBNL Local Reserve Savings 1.78% (vs. CB&T current rate of 0.45%)
Riverside Local Reserve Savings 1.78% (vs. CB&T current rate of 0.80%)
UCSB Local Reserve Savings 3.28% (vs. CB&T current rate of 1.40%)
UCSC Local Reserve Savings 3.28% (vs. CB&T current rate of 1.40%)
SW Repayment Account 3.28% (vs. CB&T current rate of 0.65%)

These would be Money Market accounts. The choice of these accounts was made because they are the ones with the smallest total deposit (so combining them will not present a risk to FDIC protection) and the smallest total interest rate (to try to get as much return as possible). Larger accounts should be moved to different banking institutions as well in order to protect them, and I will be looking into that, but this opportunity presented itself now.
