On Tuesday, May 16, 2000, the CUE Executive Board passed the motion below, and asked that the activist list be notified of this motion. In addition, the E-Board asks that all new subscribers to the list be given a copy of this, along with other information they get when subscribing.
Respectful/Fair Treatment
Whereas CUE is a rank and file union, and;Whereas all activists and elected leaders are volunteers and devote their own time to do union business whether that is a large amount or a small amount of time, and;
Whereas one of CUE's goals is to increase participation by members in activist and leadership activities, and;
Whereas we are all united in our desire to build a stronger union, then
be it so resolved that we, the CUE executive Committee urge all members to treat each other with respect. While political arguments are not discouraged, we hope that in dealing with each other, all CUE members
will listen to what others have to say,
will refrain from personal attack,
will try not to make assumptions until clarification has been made,
and will respond to each other in person, on the phone, and on email in a
civil and respectful way to the best of our ability;
and if any member has a personal criticism of another member, that he or she will communicate with that person directly, privately.
