Contract Support Network

Contract bargaining requires hard work from all of us if we want to do any better than the previous union representing UC clericals. We cannot leave it to the bargaining committee to magically win good contract language. The committee's power and effectiveness in the bargaining process will depend on the rest of us doing what we can to show support for the committee. Failure in negotiations could mean worse than not getting what we want; it could mean being forced to accept things that clericals don't want. On each campus, we will need to make our voices heard!

WHAT WILL GIVE US POWER IN BARGAINING?

CUE continues to gain new members every week and has more members than the last union. But it is no secret that our membership size is still small compared to the size of our jurisdiction -- 16,000 clericals from Davis to San Diego. How can we make UC management take us seriously? Here are two ways to start. We need:

• to accelerate our membership growth.
• to have hundreds of clericals volunteering to be part of our contract support network. Through the network, we hope to show that clericals in every department, on every floor of every building, are paying attention to the bargaining process and want to be taken seriously. This not only shows UC that we are everywhere, but provides the bargaining team with important information -- including what clerical employees think about various developments in the bargaining process.
