October 26, 2006
The Statewide Election of new officers has been completed. Your new officers
are:
| Position | Name | Campus affiliation |
| President | Jen Smith | Los Angeles |
| Northern Vice-President | Laura Wynholds | Davis |
| Southern Vice-President | Judy Sweeney | Los Angeles |
| Secretary | Wilhelmina "Billie" Buchanan | Los Angeles |
| Treasurer | Debbie Ceder | Santa Barbara |
| Chief Steward | Mary Higgins | San Francisco |
| Trustee | Allan Crosthwaite | Riverside |
| Helen Jefferson | Lawrence Berkeley National Lab |
| Silvia Marquez | Santa Barbara |
We want to welcome our new officers and thank all candidates for their
willingness to run for office to ensure that CUE continues to have the people
resources to fight against UC's attempts to cater to greed at the expense of
all clerical employees.
You will note that the election results are announced later than posted on the
election calendar. There was a staffing shortage at the Post Office that
resulted in a delay in delivering over 300 ballots to the CUE Statewide office.
After an investigation, we determined that these votes must be counted to give
every candidate a fair chance, and every voting member the right to have their
ballot counted. The additional ballots were counted on Saturday, October 21,
2006. The results above reflect the combined count from Oct. 14 and Oct. 21.
The Election Committee is in the process of writing a complete report on the
activities and decisions of the Committee during the election process. This
report will be posted on the Statewide web page by the end of this week. If you
would like a paper copy of the report, please send an e-mail to Jennifer Carrington
(click button below to reveal email address) and include your current mailing address. According
to the CUE Union Constitution, under Appendix A in Section 2 under Letter D,
CUE members are allowed to challenge the election results. Please refer to the
CUE union website address for protocol regarding challenging elections (
Appendix A).
All challenges of the electoral results must be filed with Jen Smith, the new statewide president, who can be
reached by email (click button below to reveal email address) . An individual has ten days to challenge
the results of the election, putting the deadline at October 31st, 2006.
