The Election Committee would like to thank all CUE members who voted in this important election and those who assisted in conducting it. At the direction of the Coalition of University Employees (CUE) Statewide Executive Board, the Election Committee has conducted a vote regarding the proposed affiliation with the Teamsters (IBT). The committee counted the ballots with the assistance of Arbitrator Alexander Cohn, in the presence of observers. CUE members overwhelmingly voted to affiliate with the Teamsters (IBT).
The results are as follows:
A total of 2,098 valid ballots were cast. This constitutes 55% of the CUE membership of 3,818 persons as of April 1, 2010. Therefore, the 50% requirement contained in Article 15 of the CUE Constitution has been met.
Among the valid ballots cast, 1,694 were yes votes; 392 were no votes; and 12 were votes where the intent of the voter could not be ascertained. The yes votes constituted 81% of the vote. Therefore, the two-thirds requirement contained in Article 15 of the CUE Constitution has been met.
Based upon the results, the Election Committee certifies that the proposal to affiliate with the Teamsters (IBT) passes.
The election committee will consider a challenge to the election results filed by any member received in the CUE statewide office no later than 5 PM, Wednesday, May 19, 2010. A challenge shall be in writing, and shall include all facts and evidence upon which the challenge is based.
Challenges may be mailed, faxed, or e-mailed to the contact information below. Challenges that have already been received are being considered.
