Good Afternoon CUE,
It's that time again! Contract bargaining. Our contract with UC expires on
September 30, 2008 and CUE is now preparing for another cycle of bargaining.
Our 2008-09 salaries will be negotiated during this period and possibly the
salaries for subsequent years as well. It will be a hard struggle, given the
state of the economy and the budgetary situation in Sacramento. As usual, we
expect the Regents to cry "poor" when we know they have billions of dollars in
unrestricted funds that they could easily spend to give us a just wage and
health benefits - to say nothing of not having to raise fees for the students.
We need volunteers for our Campaign Committee. The committee is charged with
mobilizing support for the bargaining team. We will meet regularly - mostly by
phone conference after work or weekends for approximately 1-2 hours, but there
may be a day or two (on the weekend) in - person meetings which will be at
CUE's expense. We will decide on a statewide theme, plan buttons, posters,
shirt designs, website and work with the Legislative Committee in keeping the
jurisdiction informed of what is happening in Sacramento.
We have a great struggle ahead but together we can make strides in improving
our working condition and welfare. Please join the Campaign Committee. If you
