demonstrations, demonstrations!
CUE members from Southern California may be interested in two demonstrations
that the CNA (California Nurses Association) is preparing for the UC Regents
meeting on Wednesday and for later that day when the question of UC pensions
will be the focus of another CNA demonstration. CNA has issued an invitation
to all UC unionists to join them at either or both of these demonstrations.
UCLA CUE is also demonstrating and has issued announcements of those activities
to UC clericals. Here is the CNA's call to their demonstrations.
UC RNs: Rally to Protect Your Pensions!!
Wednesday, March 16
Demo #1: UC Regents meeting 2-3:30 pm,
UCLA; Covel Commons, UCLA (Sunset Village).
CNA will provide buses between this and the 5 pm event.
Demo #2: Schwarzenegger anti-pension
fundraiser 5-6:30 pm; Westin Century Plaza,
2025 Avenue of the Stars, LA (2.5 miles from UCLA).
CNA will provide buses between the two events.
Governor Schwarzenegger is a member of the UC Regents, yet wants to deny
pensions to UC employees as well as the state's teachers, firefighters, police
and other government employees.
The Regents will be discussing his anti-pension proposal at their meeting; they
do not yet have an official position on the anti-pension initiative. ----We
will tell the Regents:
- Say NO to Schwarzenegger's anti-pension proposal
- No more UCLAMC layoffs--layoffs negatively affect patient care
- UC RNs supports UC staff pushing for fair salary increases and promotional
policies.
20 UC RNs just got back from New York and Washington DC protesting Governor
Schwarzenegger's anti-pension fundraising on the East Coast. Investment
companies will get 6 BILLION DOLLARS yearly if he is able to privatize our
pensions. Don't sell our pensions to Wall Street!
