CUE/UC to discuss further distribution of money
March 7, 2006
Initial meeting of the CUE/UC Joint Compensation Committee
Representatives of CUE and UC met on March 3 to discuss the distribution of money that will remain once the library assistants' equity money is disbursed. For details, please see the Wages article and the Joint Compensation Committee side letter.
CUE was able to negotiate the formation of the Joint Compensation Committee (JCC) to distribute available funds and take the first steps toward realization of UC's stated intention to "bring all staff salaries in line with the market within the next ten years."
For this year's funds, the CUE members of the JCC have been charged with the tasks of evaluating compensation factors, assessing the university's equity proposals, and calculating possible distribution options. It is a complicated process that will require a collaborative relationship with UC to achieve the full distribution of the remaining equity funds.
At this initial meeting, the CUE team reviewed salary data provided by the Office of the President and discovered some anomalies and discrepancies in the CX (clerical) salary report. UC agreed to examine the discrepancies and provide CUE with supplemental reports to clarify and possibly correct the data. We are also consulting with various compensation professionals to continue to develop and refine proposals for the most equitable distribution of the remaining funds.
CUE was represented by Stacey Fullwiler, Melinda Gandara, Nancy Kabzenell Mary Higgins, Dorthea Stewart, Lynn Kelly, Bert Thomas, Cynthia Norman, Kathi Young, Peter Donohue (economist), and Amatullah Alaji-Sabrie. UC personnel in attendance at this meeting were Peter Chester, Geoff Gale, Ken Robbins, and Rich Laurer.
