Dear President Dynes:

We are greatly troubled by the news of the breakdown in talks between the university and the UAW. The fact that the university has committed more than 60 illegal and unfair labor practices, including regressive bargaining and retaliation against UAW officers and bargaining team members, is a poor reflection on this great institution.

Last fall, the University's failure to follow the law and bargain in good faith with CUE forced our members at multiple campuses to engage in ULP strikes. Unfortunately, UC's behavior in negotiations with the UAW demonstrate that the university still believes it is above the law, and once again this behavior is forcing UC workers to go on strike.

The UAW has CUE's full support. Former UC President Atkinson made a commitment to improve labor relations at the University, a commitment which sadly remains unfulfilled. CUE encourages you, President Dynes, to make that commitment real. The university has the power to prevent job actions, by bargaining in good faith and treating employees fairly.
