| Sample Letter from UC Alumni |
Below is a sample of a letter that UC Alumni can write in support of clericals. Please send a copy of your letter to CUE.

Dear (UC Chancellor/President Atkinson/Letter to the Editor),
Recently I received a letter from the Coalition of University Employees (CUE) regarding negotiations for clerical employees at UC's nine campuses and LBL. I was disturbed to learn there is a crisis of clerical turnover at UC. While UC gave enormous raises to administrators already making six-figure salaries, it is offering the low-paid clericals a 1% pay increase. This equals a pay cut, considering increases in the cost of living, especially health-care benefits. As a UC alum, I urge President Atkinson to bargain with the union in good faith, and I encourage our chancellor to support clericals in their campaign for fair wages. Personally, I will not be making a donation to UC until labor relations improve, and I urge other alums to express their discontent in similar fashion. The situation is serious and CUE has set up a strike fund. Donations to UC can be redirected to: CUE Strike Fund, 2855 Telegraph Ave., #302, Berkeley, CA 94705. I hope my alma mater will take the high road in contract negotiations by supporting with appreciation and financial reward the staff that works so hard to keep the university running.
Sincerely,
(Your name, Class of XXXX)
