Bargaining Observers

So you want to observe bargaining? That's great. The CUE team loves to have visitors. If you are a member of the clerical unit you will not only be able to visit us in the bargaining room but will also be invited to participate in our caucuses. Here's what you need to know.

First, get in touch with the bargainer from your campus or your local CUE president to confirm when and where bargaining will take place and your interest in attending. Second, come prepared for anything: we may spend an entire day only meeting with UC for a few minutes, or we may spend most of the day at the table. The team tries to enter and exit the bargaining room as a group. When the team goes into the bargaining room, visitors will follow us in. The spaces at the table are reserved for team members but we will make sure you have a place to sit on our side of the room. You will be asked to introduce yourself after we enter the room. If you arrive when bargaining is already in progress, please feel free to come into the bargaining room - just let the bargainers know who you are. As a visitor you will not be able speak during bargaining but are encouraged to pass notes to the members of the bargaining team if you have a concern or an idea. Visitors are of course welcome to take notes for their own purposes, although we would prefer that you use pen and paper, rather than a laptop (we have two official CUE note takers who use laptops). And we ask that all cell phones, watch alarms and beepers be turned off during bargaining. We think you will find bargaining interesting, educational and occasionally exciting.
