Dear Sharon:
This letter is in response to your email of January 2, 2003. I believe that in my letter of December 18, 2003, I have responded to all of the concerns you have raised here. It is CUE's intention to enter into mediation with UC with the hope of resolving our differences. We both know that mediation is a completely voluntary process at this point and that either side can withdraw at any point.
I received Michelle's message this morning and CUE will be at the UCOP conference rooms on Tuesday January 14, 2003, at 9:00 a.m. We suggest that we use that date to meet with Micki Callahan; and see if we can at least work out ground rules and dates for mediation. Then, we can review the current state of bargaining on the CUE contract and to work out ground rules and dates for mediation. We feel that meeting with Micki will be productive, and that continuing in a letter war about ground rules is destructive and has only served to delay the process by weeks.
The entire CUE bargaining team will attend all mediation sessions. I am requesting release time for the team for both the 13th and 14th. We will use the 13th preparing for mediation and developing our proposals for ground rules. We will have two substitutions for next week -- Linda Moser from Davis will replace Becky Croll who is unable to attend; and Cynthia Norman will replace Elaine Hernandez. These are for the January 13th/14th meeting only.
I look forward to meeting with you on Tuesday.
Sincerely,
Margy Wilkinson
