The CUE Bargaining Team met with UC at the Kaiser Center in Oakland on June 26 and 27, 2008. CUE formally demanded to bargain the implementation of the START Program at the June 5th session. Additional negotiation sessions on July 8 and 9 completed the discussions on START. A report on that will be coming very soon.
The June 5 session was the first bargaining date after the Regents' approval in May of the amendment to UCRP to allow for the implementation of START. CUE received the final START Program guidelines on June 24, 2008.
We were able to ask questions of Chris Simon, UCOP Director of HRB Policy & Program Design—Compensation, and Gary Schlimgen, HRB Policy & Program Design—Retirement Plan about the new START Program. UC provided statistics from the first START Program and an overview of the process used to initiate the proposed START Program.
The CUE Bargaining Team thoroughly scrutinized the START Guidelines and Contract provided by UC at the table.
CUE's proposal was developed and later presented to UC at the July 8-9, 2008 bargaining session at the Kaiser Center in Oakland. An update on the results of that session is forthcoming in the next bargaining report.
If you want to attend the next or future bargaining sessions (dates and locations will be available on the CUE web site) contact your Local CUE office for details.
