The CUE Bargaining Team met on May 16th and 19th at the Kaiser Center in Oakland with the UC team. On Friday we continued identifying interests in regards to the Uniform article-41 and worked on clarifying the definition and interests for having a new contract definition of what constitutes a uniform. Thanks to the participation of Bob Bonsall, attorney from the CUE team, we were able to see the common and conflicting interests of both sides. This is a crucial aspect of the IBB (Interest Based Bargaining) process [See IBB process]. We ended Friday with the best of many definitions to think about until Monday's session.
On Monday, May 19th, we signed off on the IBB Ground Rules and continued with the Uniform article. After completing the listing of interests the teams began to identify potential options. As the session drew to a close, each team was given the assignment to further review the interests developed thus far and bring those back with the addition of potential options for discussion in the next bargaining sessions.
The session concluded after a discussion of the process for UC and CUE in getting approval for options that may be finally proposed before the actual contract language is developed. Future dates for negotiations are scheduled on June 5-6 and 26-27 in Oakland.
