2008-09 Successor Negotiations

Bargaining Report No. 20

March 16-18, 2009

2008-09: Bargaining Report #20: March 16-18, 2009

The CUE Bargaining Team met with the UC Management Team at UCLA on March 16th and 17th, 2009 and spent March 18th in caucus developing proposal language. UC suggested a future phone call with representatives from the Ombudsman and campus mediation offices to discuss the mediation process proposed in Article 33, Respectful, Fair Treatment. The UC team passed CUE their counter to Article 26, Performance Evaluation. CUE again countered UC's counter and we expect another counter from UC at the next session. We are struggling to reach common ground with UC on the purpose of the Performance Evaluation and the ability to grieve any aspect of it.

UC brought some updates to the Nondiscrimination Article 21 to bring it in to compliance with state and federal regulations. Pregnancy and gender orientation were added as protected under this article. We reviewed the changes and were able to reach a TA (Tentative Agreement) on this Article.

CUE also signed a sideletter with UC agreeing to a change in the START Program to allow employees to reduce their time by a minimum of 5%, instead of the original 10%.

The CUE Team spent considerable time in caucus preparing a proposal for University Benefits Article 42. We will be presenting this proposal to UC at the next session.

In caucus on March 18th CUE's team further developed and revised the language for CUE's proposal for University Benefits. Although CUE has not received all requested financial information the CUE continues to develop language for CUE's wage proposal and plans to submit an initial proposal at the next scheduled sessions.

The next session is scheduled for April 22nd to 24th, 2009 in Irvine. We encourage members to attend.
