2004-2005: Bargaining Report #10: September 13 & 22, 2005
CUE and UC bargainers met on September 13 in Los Angeles, and
September 22 in Irvine. As a result of those two sessions it was
mutually agreed to set aside (tentatively agree to) 15 articles based on
the current contract language, and 1 article based on the current
contract language with agreed upon changes. This brings to a total 17
articles that have been agreed to be set aside. (The Non-discrimination
article had been agreed to during previous bargaining sessions.)
We have identified 13 articles that we cannot reach agreement on at
this time, and 15 articles that either side wants to revisit or is engaging
in further internal consultation within its respective organization. (See
CUE website at
http://www.cueunion.org/bargaining.php for
information on bargaining history and how Impasse works.)
During the Los Angeles session UC proposed increases to medical
benefit costs that UC estimates to average 7-9%. However, the
university didn't give final rates because of their ongoing negotiations
with the insurance providers. We will forward more information about
the proposed insurance premium increases when we receive the final
proposal from the university. CUE bargainers reiterated the position
that these rates are still subject to bargaining.
Mediation is scheduled to be held on October 11-12 and November 2-3 in the
Oakland-Bay Area. The exact location has yet to be
determined. Paul Roose from the State Conciliation and Mediation
Services is the appointed mediator.
