CUE contract approved -- December 19, 2000

In a vote tabulated on Tuesday, December 19, 2000, CUE members overwhelmingly approved the contract that the union has been bargaining for over two years. The contract was approved by a 96% vote. There was a very high voter turnout, with approximately 2/3 of CUE members voting. The contract will be signed by UC and CUE on Wednesday, December 20, 2000.

Although the contract goes into effect immediately, the retroactive pay that it includes will not appear in checks for some time. UC's bargainers would make no assurance of prompt payments, promising only that checks would not take longer than 150 days. CUE on each campus will push their local administration for earlier payouts.

CUE wants UC to honor its word and make good on previously promised incentive awards; however, thus far the University has not agreed.

Bargaining for CUE's next contract will begin early in 2001. CUE members will continue to set the union's bargaining priorities.
